This is an outstanding opportunity for a commercial, sales background Managing Director to join an immensely exciting, Private Equity Backed high-margin Group. The business has seen their market explode, and has huge opportunities to be gained from devising both operational and commercial strategies with the ultimate objective of driving profitable growth.

Economies of scale will provide quick wins, but driving sales growth for the divisional companies, will prove the primary focus as well as a comprehensive operational review to ensure true cohesion and efficiencies across the group. Improving communications across the group, and setting clear and coherent deliverables, especially to all client facing colleagues, will be essential.

The appointee will have a very strong sales/business development background coupled with great commercial ability. This may well be their first appointment into General Management, but will demonstrable ability to be able to do so at this juncture. They will be an inspirational leader, with strong entrepreneurial flair complimented with the ability to get their hands dirty. Whilst leadership qualities are essential, the ability to work closely with other key members of the management team and board of this non-hierarchal business will be essential.

This is a highly achievement focused role, and thus shortlisted candidates will have an impressive track record of achieving both in terms of sales/business growth and operational efficiency. This is a technical environment, and whilst previous sector exposure is not a pre-requisite, successful candidates will likely have had exposure to working in a supremely commercial role with highly influential, and highly intellectual/academic teams in technology or another highly technical/scientific field.

…but sales, marketing and business development will be your prime strength. B2B, B2C/DTC, Online and relationship/distributor led, this group has exposure to all channels.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and deliver strategic business plans for both DTC and B2B in line with Company objectives.
  • Drive growth within existing DTC and B2B channels whilst identifying and developing innovative new routes to market.
  • Lead and direct sales and marketing teams to ensure that the team is motivated, empowered and highly productive – making appropriate recommendations in terms of people, structures and working practices.
  • Support growth of both UK and International business partners.
  • To continually review and develop the ‘whole of life’ customer engagement strategy.
  • Ability to work and liaise with, lead and motivate the scientific team(s), working closely with the Scientific Director.

Key Tasks 

  • To drive and motivate the commercial teams in the development of creative opportunities for DTC and B2B.
  • To lead the development of the Business through new market sectors.
  • To drive and motivate the sales & customer care function to increase conversion ratio from lead to order.
  • To continually develop and recommend improvements in all aspects of the Commercial, Sales and Marketing function.
  • To ensure key opinion leaders/patient support groups are well motivated and supported.
  • Drive consumer understanding and consumer benefit-lead propositions for communications throughout the business.
  • To ensure reporting on competitor analysis, consumer trends and market environment is undertaken.
  • To continually engender accountability and responsibility through empowerment amongst the marketing and sales teams.
  • To guide, support and mentor as required monitoring performance and recommend/ implement corrective action as appropriate in line with agreed KPI’s.
  • To identify and develop new product business opportunities ideas/routes to market within UK and International markets.

Candidate profile

  • B2B/DTC marketing experience essential.
  • Proven track record in identifying and establishing direct and indirect sales channels, then ability to develop and execute.
  • Proven ability to consistently deliver sales targets and sales activity levels.
  • Commercially aware.
  • Confident, driven and dynamic leader.
  • Ability to build strong relationships both internally and externally.
  • Be able to persuade and influence.
  • Ability to forecast against agreed targets.
