Reporting to the Group CEO and the board as a whole of this Private Equity Backed group, this is an exciting opportunity for a highly ambitious professional to take on a critical role within this impressive business.

The business has enjoyed years of great success on a national scale. Their product range and constantly developing routes/channels to market has seen unprecedented growth and seen them morph into a true market leader.

In recent years their success and growth has accelerated and led, last year, to a Management Buy Out, backed by one of the countries most respected and high-profile Private Equity houses. With that buyout, the group secured the services of one of the UK’s top Chairman, a true industry mogul, to guide the business through its next exciting phase, providing the expectation for far greater success and growth to come.

This transaction, the introduction of the Chairman and the business activity as a whole has led to the requirement to recruit a Top-Flight Sales & Marketing Manager/Director.

The Sales & Marketing Director will be one of the highest profile leaders in the business, becoming the custodian of sales growth, marketing presence and ultimately of top-line commercial performance. Responsible directly to the Board the scope of this role is virtually limitless, entrepreneurial spirit and hunger is as desired as it is fostered.

The appointee will take responsibility for all sales and marketing activity across the group. Group sales, both direct and indirect, as well as all marketing efforts including ATL, BTL, digital, social and feed consumer/trade locations across the country. Leading a team, this role is all about making an already strong and defined brand with impressive sales even better, focusing on driving ROI, footfall/traffic, consumer engagement and above all, top line sales.

Alongside traditional sales and marketing strategies, the appointee will be tasked with leading, refining, evolving and developing new strategies including the further role-out of a direct to (trade) consumer offering, ensuring the delivery of the highest levels of service, all whilst operating in the most commercial and strategically ambitious manner possible.

The role will ultimately take total responsibility for the entire sales & key client relationship operations, including managing existing operations, driving (profitable) sales and developing new channels/routes to market. Crucially, he/she will also become the external face of the business.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Driving demonstrable growth in top line sales whilst protecting margin and commercial positioning
  • Sales and Marketing performance of all Group Channels and product offerings.
  • Leading wholesale relationships; and developing new relationships with prestigious suppliers, fitters, trade customers and retailers of all sizes and geographical locations.
  • Increasing the impact, usability, functionality, conversion and overall appeal of all group marketing channels, including online.
  • Aspire and deliver to the highest levels of customer service across all channels.
  • Design and define all promotional calendars and timelines
  • Drive footfall and awareness through promotional campaigns, media advertising, social media, e-mail, PR, affiliate marketing and local marketing
  • Deliver integrated multi-channel campaigns that drive traffic across all channels
  • Drive retention and customer spend
  • Ensure consistency of message across all channels
  • Construct marketing budget and control spend
  • Ensure that marketing POS, literature and digital media is delivered on time and in accordance with corporate and brand guidelines
  • Oversee internal marketing communication and ensure accuracy, simplicity and relevance.
  • Develop new ways to engage with customers to drive footfall, retention and spend
  • Project management of new marketing initiatives

The successful candidate will probably be a current Sales Director (or equivalent) within a sizable SME home improvement/kitchen/bathroom/bedroom/wholesale business. They will be able to demonstrate commercial sales development across multiple channels, and will absolutely have experience of managing AND LEADING a sales function. Experience of major account wins will ensure you stand out from the crowd.

The appointee will be a change agent and be able to give demonstrable examples of managing, and driving, change/growth, ideally within an entrepreneur and/or Private-Equity led business. They themselves will demonstrate real entrepreneurial flair and be able to show creative commercial leadership ability with strong ideation. Above all they will possess market-leading ability in developing business and be used to, and expect, success and profitable growth.

As with all senior management, commercial opportunities, personality will be critical to this appointment. The appointee will be an inspirational leader with a strong resolve but retain the ability, and desire to ‘get their hands dirty’, leading from the front.  This position needs experience and strategic ability, and thus it is expected that the appointee will have at least 10-15 years Sales exposure.

The appointee will have sales & marketing responsibility for the group and be responsible for achievement of sales, expenditure and investment targets, but this is no ‘ivory tower’ role. Creative ‘dirty hands’ are a pre-requisite. You will be the driving force behind the commercial development of the business in every possible way; your creative hunger and desire to constantly improve the on and offline offerings will keep you highly involved.

The successful candidates will have both interest and experience in strong commerciality, business, sales and marketing. You will be able to lead and report on the operational performance of all channel offering(s) as well as the metrics of conversion, usability price setting and over-trading.

Cultural fit will be essential. This is a fast paced, highly energetic, entrepreneurial environment where no two days are the same and ideas fill the air, constantly. The appointee will be self-motivated, but will also be motivating to all around them, but you will be able to perform the role of calming influencer, demonstrating methodical solution finding as well as strategic thinker.

You will have a constant desire to make every idea, process and function better, more efficient and more effective both at a strategic level, but also delving into the minutia. You will crave the ability to constantly develop all aspects of the commercial offerings, seeking to add extra percentages to conversion rates, average spend, repeat purchases and all commercial metrics.

You will have the hunger to be one of the best Sales & Marketing professionals in the market – this business will give the platform, the tools and the opportunity to make it happen.
