Financial Controller

Outstanding and unique opportunity to join an exciting consultancy and commercial solutions business operating across the UK and new corporate entity in India; a newly created role within a highly entrepreneurial business in response to unexpectedly high growth and change.

Still a small entrepreneurial business, with a turnover approaching £5m, and growing quickly, they have an enviable list of blue-chip clients, offering range of blended commercial solutions. The organic growth the business has seen has been further supplemented with a new, SaaS business offering, now (highly) profitably trading and whilst currently only contributing around 10% of the business’s turnover, is expected to growth exponentially, budgeted to be around a third of the business within 2 years.

Financially extremely robust they sit with zero debt and possess a scalable business model that will maintain and increase their current highly profitable position.

The shareholder/directors are populated with a wealth of industry experience, all with outstanding track records in building, growing & selling businesses in this space.

Due to the current levels of growth, and the expected trajectory of the business, the business has the desire to recruit a motivated and experienced Finance Manager into the role of Financial Controller, a ‘number one’ finance role, reporting to the MD and working very closely with the Directors to continually improve financial and commercial visibility and understanding and in turn, continually improve the prospects and the position of the business, in a quest for ever greater commercial and financial performance, as well as ensure all controls and processes in place are suitable for a growth business; improving them where necessary.

Where the role is pleasantly unique is in the fact that all accounts, transaction processing, payroll, journal posting etc is successfully outsourced to a firm of accountants, leaving the FC to work with the numbers, not on the numbers, producing Management Accounts using data on the in-house system (populated by the accountants) plus budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis as well as clarity on dividend policy and management of surplus cash reserves.

Above all, the Financial Controller will be responsible for providing good, quality Management Information & analysis into the highly experienced board of directors, providing key information to the board, and in particular to the MD, as he drives further growth which everyone will benefit from (there is already an EMI scheme in place, with this appointee set to benefit from any future transaction.)

The role is limitless. There will be a substantial commercial overlap into the business, understanding and commercially driving the consultancy and SaaS sides of the business; the appointee will make as much of the role as they desire.

The appointee will ideally be a qualified accountant with a track record of success in a relevant environment.

They will have experience in financial (and commercial) management, but they will almost certainly be their first ‘number one’ role. They will be hungry, set on a fast-track career path to FD and keen to learn from some of the most experienced directors in the sector.

  • Preferably a qualified accountant or able to work to that level
  • Previous consultancy/contract services industry (Construction, Facilities Management, Civil Engineering, Infrastructure maintenance, etc) experience would be a distinct advantage, as would exposure to a software/SaaS product business.
  • Commercial astute, aware and inquisitive; hungry to use the numbers they produce to benefit the business
  • Demonstrable experience of managing a remote Finance team in a fast-paced environment would be desirable, but not essential.
  • Resilient by nature, adaptable to change, passionate with a real desire to succeed
  • Able to credibly communicate effectively at all levels internally and externally to the business
  • Ability to present accurate commercial financial data in a concise manner and has good attention to detail
  • Can deliver to deadlines and thrives under pressure
  • The ability to constantly question themselves and others as they strive for continuous improvement
  • Have a clear knowledge of what they have done, but be more excited by what they can do

This is an amazing opportunity for a hungry, career focussed finance professional with their eyes on both an exciting career in finance and in a financially lucrative opportunity for themselves.
