This is an outstanding opportunity to join a high growth, privately owned entrepreneurial Pharmaceutical group, specialising in the development manufacture, development and sale of specialised regulated products.
The business is a specialist CDMO Group, their spread of interests leaves them leading several markets and provides for continued, long-term revenue streams. The Group is primarily located in the South East, but with recent wins from their Cheshire-based facility, there is a huge appetite to further drive that capability.
The Group’s current strategy will see Gross Margin increase more than 5-fold by 2025. Significant capital investment in facilities as well as key appointments and increased IP ownership has cemented their future capability.
Recognising the growth of the business, the group now has a critical need, and is excited to appoint a Business Development Manager to develop further and continue the execution of the current strategy across the Cheshire facility. This key role will drive the commercial growth of the business over the short to medium term, with a long-term eye on a group-wide remit.
The role as Business Development Manager is an outstanding opportunity to not only take a key role in an exciting, market leading business, but to be a key part of, and benefit from, the business’s future.
This executive appointee will take responsibility for business development, supported by a high-performing team and MD. They will be expected to own and deliver the new business development strategy and customer experience.
Sales growth is critical to the onward success of the group. The appointee will be responsible for developing a team of sales and customer service representatives in this leading CDMO business. They will be given the opportunity to mentor develop, motivate, energise, and performance-manage the team and ancillary functions, where applicable, to deliver the business goals.
…but sales growth will be the primary focus. They will have inout on the design of a clear BD strategy, and be tasked with effectively communicating it to the business units, before taking a lead role in the execution of the plan. The potential within the current team is great but, as yet, partially untapped. Increased communication, clarification and a coherent strategy, coupled with a strong execution is expected to have a dramatic effect on results at all levels. Being an inspirational leader within the sales team will be of paramount importance. Leading by example and ‘getting your hands dirty’ will be essential. The sales process relies on leveraging the technical functions in the business and engaging of relationship at a senior strategic level within the client base.
Whilst being a strong and entrepreneurial leader, the appointee will need to be able to connect and inspire all individuals in this broad-based group structure. They will take a lead role in developing and encouraging the team and those around them whilst empowering others to do the same, with clear objectives and focus, seeking to maximise long term sustainable growth of the business. sales. They will continually improve operational standards, applying an operational excellence approach and drive forward new initiatives and innovations to improve revenue and profitability.
Assisting with the commercial design and planning for the Cheshire business, the appointee will be tasked with communicating the operational and commercial vision for the business, with internal and external support, and will be the key to exceeding expectations in this innovative and potential-filled location. Operational and efficiency improvements will form a strong foundation to enable maximum commercial and financial benefit to be gained from the group, but driving top-line growth will be paramount to long-term success.
Suitable candidates will have a high achieving business development career behind them within Pharmaceuticals (or similar) and/or have a scientific/biological/medical background, academic or practical, but they will still have a highly commercial, business development focus, aligned to demonstrable leadership and general management potential.
This is not a stand still role. The career potential for this role is uncapped.
The appointee will have worked to design commercial sales and business development strategies, worked closely with operations and technical teams in designing solutions and have had success in doing to. But above all, they will be a deliverer and a high achiever from a Sales Growth perspective.
The successful candidate will have entrepreneurial ability and desire, and be hugely excited by a very high paced environment.
Specific Experience Sought:
- Will have a strong business development sales background gained within an entrepreneurial, intelligent environment, where the individual has been given the opportunity “to do things differently”
- At least 2 years leadership/management experience would be useful but not necessary
- Ideally a scientific/chemistry/biology/medical background, academic or otherwise
- A strong commercial foundation or experience working within a sales led business
- Ideally have a thorough understanding of the drug development and manufacturing process
- Track record of success in growing sustainable business.
